Moorfoot Room, Level 0
Discussions surrounding sexual relationships and intimacy in residential settings can be complex and staff, family members and service users need to consider a individual's right to self expression in the context of policies and procedures and the law. Discussions may be influenced by personal experiences and views which may be implicitly or explicitly expressed.
The workshop will consist of:
Overview of legal issues in relation to sexual capacity and consent, discussion around the safeguarding of vulnerable adults whilst preserving their rights to intimate relationships, presentation about obstacles to intimacy after brain injury. Small group work on case vignettes to facilitate discussion and sharing of experiences. Summary session to present a draft framework to support services to address these issues.
Chair: Camilla Herbert (UK) and Siobhan Palmer (UK)
